Messiah’s Cumberland and York Counties enter green phase on June 12, 2020

As the counties where Messiah is located move to the green phase under Governor Wolf on June 12, 2020, the administration would like to update the campus community on the impact of those changes.

Reminders for the Green Phase:

  • Schools and institutions of higher education are subject to CDC and Commonwealth guidance
  • Continued telework strongly encouraged
  • Large recreational gatherings remain restricted
  • Restaurant/dining facilities can open at 50 percent occupancy
  • Large gatherings of more than 250 prohibited
  • Work force should be limited to 75 percent

Employees and access to campus:

 GROUP 1: Employees currently reporting to work on campus 

Employees who are currently reporting to work on campus should continue to report to work as directed.

GROUP 2: Certain employees may begin returning to campus occasionally beginning in June

Specifically, educators may begin returning to work to prepare for the fall.  Other employees who need to be on campus to address fall planning may also occasionally arrange to be on campus.  This is arranged through the employee’s vice president, provost or dean.

GROUP 3: Certain employees may begin returning to campus occasionally beginning July 1

Administrative and staff employees whose functions require them to be physically present before the rest of the community arrives in August, to support a return to face-to-face operations for the fall, may arrange to occasionally work on campus. These employees will receive notification from their dean or supervisor related to accessing campus.

 GROUP 4: Certain employees will begin reporting to campus as needed on August 1

Educators, administration and staff whose functions require them to be physically present to support a return to face-to-face operation for the fall, will return to campus beginning Aug. 1.   These employees will receive notification from their dean or supervisor related to accessing campus.

GROUP 5: Certain employees will continue remote work throughout at least the fall semester

Administrative and staff whose functions can continue to be performed remotely, and are not meaningfully affected by working remotely, will continue to work remotely throughout the fall semester.  Periodic work on campus should be anticipated, but the vast majority of work will be done remotely.  Under current guidelines, work force is to be at less than 75 percent on site/in locations. At a later date, vice presidents and deans will be communicating plans for those who will continue to work remotely.


All employees are to be following the guidelines set above.  Employees that are on campus and in buildings must wear a mask, unless alone in an office.  When outside on campus a mask will not be required (but is recommended) as long as persons are socially distanced at 6 ft. Social distancing is expected where possible on campus.

Employees scheduled to move out of an office may bring one additional person (immediate family member only) with them to assist with the move.  This person must also wear a mask and follow social distance guidelines.


Guidelines related to travel after June 30, 2020 will be communicated at a later date.



Employees who are responsible for sorting their departmental mail should use the attached PDF. This will let the Campus Post Office know how to handle your department’s mail from June 22 through Aug. 14.

If the person who normally sorts your department mail is unavailable, the person currently sorting it should reply using this form.

Please be sure to fill out the form, SAVE it to your computer and then attach it to an email to  This will ensure that the Campus Post Office will receive the correct information and not a blank attachment.

Please Note! The Campus Post Office only needs ONE response per department.

Brunch – 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Dinner – 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Library:  Murray Library will remain closed until further notice.

Fitness facilities:  At this time, all indoor and outdoor fitness facilities remain closed.

As the college works on the Messiah University Reopening Plan, updated information will be communicated to employees via mass email and the reopening website which will launch in mid June.
